Guysgocrazy tonight at Overgarden Institute of Contemporary Art (DK)

Friday 24 July 2009, 5-10pm: Overgaden Institute of Contemporary Art invites you to the opening of the week exhibition LYST. (Performance by the Polish artist Wojciech Kosma at 7pm and afterwards a conceptuel DJ set by Lars Erik Frank aka DJ Leffe).

Thursday 30 July 2009, 6-10pm: Overgaden invites you to a seminar and performance with the title Flowery Cankers – Beautiful Objects in Photography.

Lyst is the Danish word for lust or desire and it is the title of a short and intensive exhibition of contemporary art. LYST is put together idiosyncratically and by way of desire and contains local darlings as well as international superstars. Around 30 artists show artworks that all touch upon and tangle notions of desire, lust and the sexy. The title LYST is taken from the Austrian writer Elfriede Jelinek's novel from 1989.
The exhibition doesn’t pay much attention to the artwork as such and may contain xeroxes, texts, zines etc. alongside works on paper, photography, video and performance. A number of events, film screenings, actions, tea parties and discussions will take place during the exhibition period.
The exhibition is curated by Tomas Lagermand Lundme and Mathias Kryger and will run during the World Outgames, which are held in Copenhagen. The ambition is to make a lustful, ready to burst bubble of serious and high in quality contemporary art. During the exhibition period Overgaden will extend it's opening hours.

Participating artists: Sands Murray Wassink (USA), Al Masson (FRA), Paul Mpagi Sepuya (US), Christodoulos Panayiotou (CYP), Honey Biba Beckerlee (DK), Typisk Lesbisk (DK), Slava Mogutin (RUS/US), Lasse Lau (DK), Flo Maak (DEU) , Peter Brandt (DK), Tomas Lagermand Lundme (DK), Bruce LaBruce (CAN), Mette Winckelmann (DK), Henrik Olesen (DK/D), Martin Jacob Nielsen (DK), You Little Teapot (DK), Sara Katrine Thiesen (DK), Maiken Bent (DK), Sian Kristoffersen (DK), Wojciech Kosma (POL), Heine Kjærgaard Klausen (DK), Philip Wiegard (DEU), Lars Erik Frank (DK), Paco y Manolo (ESP), Morten Sørensen & Johan Carlsson (S/DK), Diana Velasco (DK), Marie Johanne Edinger Plum (DK), Stina Stjern (NO), BUTT magazine (NL), BASSO magazine (DEU), GLU (girls like us) (NL), KINK fanzine (ESP), KAISERIN (FRA), DIK (POL).

Desire is irrelevant at Bazeos Tower - Nikos Alexiou, The Collection

“TOWER-TOWER. NIKOS ALEXIOU-THE COLLECTION”
July 18th to September 3rd, 2009
Bazeos Tower, 12th km Chora Naxos – Agiassos road
Every day: 10:00 – 17:00. Tel +302285031402
Curator: Nikos Alexiou. Organizer: Mario Vazeos
Info: www.bazeostower.gr & www.nikosalexiou.com

The Tower
The three-story fortress structure with its adjacent storage was built by monks over various periods of time around 1600, over the older, Byzantine sanctuary of the True Cross, thus incorporating it into the newer building. It operated as a monastery of the same name until the early 19th century, when it became the property of the newly formed Hellenic State. Subsequently, for some decades it was inhabited by families of potters, who lived and worked in these buildings. At the end of the 19th century, it was purchased by the Bazeos (Baseggio) family, one of the oldest on the island of Naxos, of Venetian heritage, which used it as an estate as well as a summer residence.
The descendant of this family and current owner not only restored the structure, but also decided to endow it with a new relative role. Hence, it has been functioning as an artistic, educational and cultural space since 2001.

The Collection
This Nikos Alexiou’s modern, avant-garde idea to bring together works of modern and contemporary cannot simply be regarded as a mere collection of artwork by other fellow artists, since the compilation process is in itself one of the artist – collector’s personal and ongoing artistic projects.
As Giorgos Tzirtzilakis* remarks, “Alexiou’s collection is an allegory par excellence of the aspect of collecting which characterizes his artistic practice. The activity of collecting is a productive mechanism in its own right and the quintessence of his work…A preference for the minor is recognizable in these works, with the help of which anyone can construct or deconstruct their own narrative. I would even say that the more personal and minor a work, the more major the significance of its presence becomes within the collection. The “graphic note”, the folds and traces are the defining elements of this collection, as opposed to all that is brash and hefty. Besides, most of these works are the ones which first introduced us to the artists who created them.
Nonetheless, this description does not detract from the primary feature in this context, i.e. the fact that this is a collection. The way it was compiled and the fact of its creation are indivisible. “
Presenting this collection at Bazeos Tower should be regarded as a starting point for reflection, which will develop over time, as more pieces are acquired and shown in alternative locations.

«TOWER-TOWER.

And I love him - "...here she is Miss Esther Phillips"

Vierzehnheiligen, The Basilica of the Fourteen Holy Helpers

The Basilica of the Fourteen Holy Helpersrs is an impressive late Baroque, Rococo Basilica with an amazing free standing altar in the middle

The bad staffelstein, with uncountable covered and open air pools mostly frequented by old people, is located in the valley very near by the Basilica

Sanspareil Rockgarden

Sanspareil is a beautiful rockgarden full of wonders and romantic metaphors. Built by the Margravine Wilhelmine in 1744 it is the first english garden outside england

with irresistible natural formations

tall trees

and the famous Calypso Cave Theater which was built as a ruin

next to the park there are beautiful fields where you can fall asleep looking at the sky or be upset because you are hungry

Hermitage Court Garden outside Bayreuth

Philip and I visited the Magravial Hermitage Court Garden

with neverending organic corridors

and inaccessible oriental tea pavilions

with fake ruins

and faikely ruined theaters

where Wilhelmine inscribed promises "en français"

with playful fountains where kids got trapped by dancing waters

and a basin where philip got trapped by his reflection

I also discovered a secret passage

which Philip would not believe

on our way out we found a hidden cherry tree garden

with delicious cherries

Nobody walks in Bayreuth at night
